To help promote fair competition amongst GT-R owners, we have come up with some GT-R categories that will be used for various events and our record leaderboards. These events include:
- Motive GT-R Challenge
- GT-R Festival
- Motive Runway Thrash
The categories are not based on any sanctioning bodies and are specifically tailored to suit the GT-R market. The categories are:
- GT-R OUTLAW – Dedicated drag cars on slicks or radials
- GT-R PRO STREET – “Street Drag” GT-Rs. Based on street cars but pushed to the extreme
- GT-R PRO – For GT-Rs that are dedicated race cars but based on “street drag” style cars and using the factory monocoque.
- GT-R TRUE STREET – Genuine street cars and broken down into:
- RB26 block automatic
- RB26 block manual
- RB30 block automatic
- RB30 block manual
- Bolt-on position low mount turbochargers
SKYLINE GT-R CATEGORIES
GT-R OUTLAW
GT-R Outlaw is for dedicated drag cars. Two categories based on tyre:
- Cross Ply Slick Tyre
- Drag Radial Tyre
Bodywork
- Must retain GT-R turret from a-pillar to c-pillar, form roof to floor
- Bodywork forward of bottom of a-pillar and rearward of bottom of c-pillar is free
- Floor can be cut-out and re-made but factory chassis rails must remain
- Firewall is free
- Roof can have outer skin in carbon
Exterior
- Factory silhouette must remain
- Nose clips and lightweight panels are free
- Doors must open and close
Interior
- Interior modifications are free
Suspension and drivetrain
- Front and rear suspension is free
- Car must retain factory style AWD arrangement with:
- – Front differential attached to engine sump
- – Gearbox attached to back of engine engine
- – Transfer case attached to rear of gearbox
- – A shaft joining transfer case to front diff
- -A shaft joining transfer case to rear diff
- Transmission is free
Engine
- Must use a RB/RD based engine block. Internal Modifications are free.
- Must use RB25 or RB26 OEM head. Modifications are free
- Fuel type is free
Rolling Stock
- Brakes, wheels and tires are free
GT-R PRO
This is for GT-Rs that are dedicated to the track so do not need road going items or registration. Street drag style GT-Rs or time attack cars are in this group. They are based on street cars and full bodied, but being track only do not need concessions to suit road use. Can run on slicks or radial tyres. This is for either time attack cars, or, dedicated drag cars that are not as serious as the outlaw cars.
Bodywork & Exterior
- The factory monocoque metalwork must remain intact. The boot floor can be cut for the fitment of fuel cell or roll cage work.
- Lightweight doors, front guards, bonnet, front and rear bar may be fitted as well as lexan windows.
- Aero modifications are free
- Front and rear bars must retain factory or similar shape. Front bar must have opening for intercooler and radiator.
- Rear guards can be wide-bodied, but the inner guard must not be modified and the car not be mini-tabbed inwards at all.
- Firewall can only be trimmed around gearbox tunnel for fitment of transmission. Can be cut to run exhaust through firewall. Must exit as per ANDRA/CAMS rules.
Suspension
- Front and rear suspension sub frames can be replaced with bolt-in items. Must use factory mounting points.
- Suspension arms are free as long as bolt into factory or aftermarket sub-frame pick up points. Pick up points can be modified within sub frame.
- IRS must be retained
Interior
- Interior is free
Engine
- RB/RD engine block must be used or billet equivalent
- Internal modifications are free
- Must use RB25 or RB26 cylinder head. Modifications are free.
- Turbo and associated inlet systems are free
- Methanol, Ethanol or petroleum based fuels allowed.
Drivetrain
- Must retain AWD. Control of AWD system free
- Must use an automatic gearbox with a torque convertor or a manual transmission with a normal clutch arrangement. Pneumatic paddle shift for manual is permitted.
- Slider clutch or gearboxes that cannot go down gears while moving are not permitted, as not considered gearboxes that could be used on the street.
- Must use factory front differential location. Internals are casing are free to modify
- Rear differential is free but must retain driveshafts and IRS
- Transfer case and tail shaft free
Brakes
- Brakes are free but must use four-wheel disc brakes.
Tires
- Tires are free
GT-R PRO STREET
This is for the top echelon of GT-R “street drag” racing. The technology and parts used in this category directly translate down to true streetcars. Although the cars aren’t necessarily driven on the street, they can be with a few small changes. This category now allows the use of methanol at the track, as its not hard to swap back to E85, as the power levels have gone beyond what is reliable on ethanol based fuels.
Cars MUST have valid registration. Cars MUST be ANDRA/IHRA Teched
Bodywork
- The factory monococque metalwork must remain intact. The boot floor can be cut for the fitment of fuel cell or roll cage work.
- Must retain a radiator support beam, but can be modified to be removable.
- Lightweight doors, front guards, bonnet, front and rear bar may be fitted.
- Front and rear bars must retain factory or similar shape. Front bar must have opening for intercooler and radiator.
- Rear guards can be wide-bodied, but the inner guard must not be modified and the car not be mini-tabbed inwards at all.
- Firewall can only be trimmed around gearbox tunnel for fitment of transmission.
- Rear wing is free
- Under car aero is free
Exterior
- Must retain functional side view mirrors
- Must retain factory headlights, taillights and indicators that work.
- Passenger headlight may be removed for intake to turbo
Suspension
- Front and rear suspension sub-frames can be replaced with bolt-in items. Must use factory bolt-in points.
- Suspension arms are free as long as bolt into factory or aftermarket sub frame pick up points. Pick up points can be modified within sub frame.
- IRS must be retained
Interior
- Glass windows must be used for front
- Rear and side windows can be lexen
- Door windows must retain full functionality of windows and handles.
- The carpet and interior trim pieces must remain from front seats forward. Dashboard, centre console, door trims, glove box
- Interior can be trimmed to suit roll cage
- Rear seat and trim does not need to be installed if roll cage does not clear
- The dash does not need to retain heater or air conditioning systems
- Car must have two front seats and seatbelts/harness
- Steering wheel is free
Engine
- RB/RD engine block must be used or billet equivalent
- Internal modifications are free
- Must use RB25 or RB26 cylinder head. Modifications are free.
- Turbo and associated inlet systems are free within engine bay
- Turbo must not protrude above bonnet line.
- Methanol, ethanol or petroleum based fuels allowed
- Must use a full height radiator. Width can be changed from factory to suit turbo and intercooler piping
- Engine bay must retain the use of an intercooler of air-to-air or water-to-air design.
- Exhaust is free
- EFI must be used
Drivetrain
- Must retain AWD. Control of AWD system is free
- Must use an automatic gearbox with a torque convertor or a manual transmission with a foot pedal operated clutch. Pneumatic paddle shift for manual is permitted.
- Slider clutch or gearboxes that cannot go down gears while moving are not permitted, as not considered gearboxes that could be used on the street.
- Must use factory front differential location. Internals are casing are free to modify
- Rear differential is free but must retain driveshafts and IRS
- Transfer case and tail shaft free
Brakes
- Brakes are free but must use four-wheel disc brakes.
Tires
- Tires must be of radial construction
- Tire size is free
GT-R TRUE STREET
True Street is for cars that are genuine street cars. Category is broken down into:
- RB26 Block Automatic and Manual
- RB30 block Automatic and Manual
Cars MUST have valid registration. Rego papers must match VIN number.
Bodywork & Exterior
- The factory monococque metalwork must remain intact. The boot floor can be cut for the fitment of fuel cell or roll cage work.
- Bonnet is free but most retain factory outline.
- Front and rear bar may be replaced with aftermarket bodykit that retains factory look and functionality. Front bar must have an opening for radiator and intercooler.
- Wide body kits and rolling/lipping of guards is permitted but inner guard metal can NOT be modified or cut
- Car can NOT be mini-tubbed inwards
- Factory doors must be used if car is not ANDRA/IHRA teched
- Lightweight doors can be used if car is ANDRA/IHRA teched
- Front and rear windows must be glass
- Side windows can be lexan
- Firewall can only be trimmed around gearbox tunnel for fitment of transmission. Cannot be cut to suit exhaust.
- Rear wing is free
- Boot lid is free but must retain factory shape
- Must retain functional side view mirrors
- Must retain working headlights, tail lights, indicators and wipers.
- Passenger headlight can be removed for inlet to turbo.
Suspension
- Must use factory sub frame, or, aftermarket sub frame that still uses factory arms or replacement factory arms
- Pick up points can be modified on sub frame as long as factory arms can still be fitted into that positions.
- IRS must be retained
Interior
- All windows must be glass
- Door windows must retain functionality. Can be manual or electric
- All interior trim pieces must remain, expect for what is required to be removed for fitment of roll cage. Back seats, roof lining and rear plastic trim can be removed if cage does not allow fitment.
- Car must have two front seats and seatbelts/harness
- Steering wheel is free
Engine
- RB/RD engine block must be used or billet equivalent
- Internal modifications are free
- Must use RB26 cylinder head. Modifications are free.
- Turbo and associated inlet systems are free within engine bay
- Turbo must not protrude above bonnet line.
- Nitrous is permitted
- Ethanol and unleaded petroleum based fuels only – NO METHANOL FUEL ALLOWED
- Must use a full height and width radiator. Exception can be made for custom intercooler/radiator design if radiator thicker and ease of piping is required. Must be approved by GTRHUB/MOTIVE staff.
- Engine bay must retain the use of an intercooler of air-to-air or water-to-air design. No dry ice systems allowed.
- Functioning exhaust system must protrude through rear bar and contain at least one muffler. Exhaust gasses must pass through the pipe. Flapper valves are permitted under the car between the chassis rails only. Side pipes are not permitted.
- Car must have a functioning fuel tank in the factory location, or a fuel cell in the boot, with a minimum capacity of 40 litres. Surge tank design and placement is free.
- EFI must be used
Drivetrain
- Must retain AWD. Control of AWD system free
- Must use an automatic gearbox with a torque convertor ,or
- Manual transmissions must have input shaft attached to a clutch that uses a foot operated clutch pedal. Must also have an output shaft attached to the transfer case. Must be operated by one lever in a sequential or h-pattern arrangement.
- Paddle shift is permitted as long as clutch pedal is still manually controlled
- Slider clutch or gearboxes that cannot go down gears while moving are not permitted, as not considered gearboxes that could be used on the street.
- Must use factory front differential location. Internals are casing are free to modify
- Rear differential is free but must retain driveshafts and IRS
- Transfer case and tail shaft free
Brakes
- Brakes are free but must use four-wheel disc brakes.
Tires
- Tires must be of radial construction
- Tire size is free
GT-R TWIN LOW MOUNT
This category is for cars running the factory low mount turbo configuration. Custom low mounted manifolds are not eligible to run in this class. It is for “bolt-on” style configurations.
Rules are the same as True Street except for:
- Must use twin turbochargers in factory location.
- Must use factory flange size to join turbos to manifold
- Aftermarket manifolds are permitted, however, must locate turbochargers into factory position.
- Dump pipe and front pipe are free.
R35 GT-R CATEGORIES
R35 Stock Turbo Class
This class is for R35 GT-Rs that retain the factory turbochargers
- Must use factory turbochargers in factory location
- Must run on ethanol or petroleum based fuel
- Engine modifications are free
- Transmission modifications are free
- Suspension Modifications are free
- Must retain factory monocoque
R35 Stock Frame Class
- Must use turbocharges located in factory position. Aftermarket manifolds are permitted.
- HKS GT800 and HKSGT1000 turbo kits are permitted and similar.
- Must run on ethanol or petroleum based fuel
- Engine modifications are free
- Transmission modifications are free
- Suspension Modifications are free
- Must retain factory monocoque
R35 Unlimited Class
This is for outright highly modified R35 GT-Rs
- Factory monocoque must remain
- Can run on ethanol, methanol or petroleum blends
- Engine modifications are free
- Transmission modifications are free
- Suspension Modifications are free
- Turbo location is free
